Selected examples of how I have helped sport organisations make complex sustainability challenges clearer, develop practical solutions, build evidence and strengthen people’s ability to deliver.
These examples span different periods, organisations and types of assignment. Some were defined projects. Others developed into longer-term partnerships.

From Sustainability Strategy to a Working System
Challenge:
World Taekwondo wanted to establish a coherent sustainability direction and turn it into practice across its operations, member associations and competitions.
My role: I supported the development of its sustainability strategy and have remained involved as an adviser through implementation. The work has included governance and progress tracking, carbon accounting and climate action, reporting, sustainable competition tools, education, awards, case studies and support for ambassadors.
Evidence of progress: The strategy was adopted and followed by an implementation tracking system and a two-year progress report. Sustainable competition resources have been published and used by event organisers. A role-based sustainability learning platform launched in 2026 and attracted more than 200 users within its first five days.
Helping Football Associations Develop Their Own Social Responsibility Strategies
Challenge:
UEFA’s member associations had very different resources, priorities and starting points. They needed a common process for developing social responsibility strategies without imposing a single model on every association.
My role: I co-developed a step-by-step strategy-development roadmap, supported by templates, guidance and learning materials, to make the process easier for associations to understand and adapt to their own circumstances. I also co-led a five-day compact course and regional workshops, helped adapt parts of the programme for online delivery, and provided direct advisory support to individual associations.
Evidence of progress: Three regional workshops, including one adapted for online delivery, covered all 55 UEFA member associations. The roadmap and accompanying video were published for wider use, while direct advisory support contributed to strategies for at least five associations.
Building Reporting and Evidence Systems Over Time
Challenge:
The IBU needed to translate a broad sustainability strategy into meaningful indicators, data collection and credible annual reporting. As the work developed, it also needed to refresh its targets and connect climate planning, reporting and implementation more clearly.
My role: I initially helped turn the IBU’s broad strategic targets into a clearer set of indicators and practical data-collection requirements. The role expanded into report architecture, evidence systems, a Climate Transition Action Plan, a refresh of the Roadmap to 2030 and the design of a proportionate, VSME-informed impact-reporting process.
Evidence of progress: Four annual sustainability reports have been published. The Climate Transition Action Plan is public and the Roadmap to 2030 refresh has been approved by the IBU Executive Board. Together, these outputs provide a clearer connection between strategic targets, actions, evidence and reporting.
Designing Sustainability Learning for Different Parts of Sport
Challenge:
Sustainability learning can easily remain too broad or theoretical. Different audiences needed practical programmes connected to their roles, decisions and operating realities.
My role: I have designed and delivered learning that breaks broad sustainability topics down into something relevant to people’s actual roles and decisions. This has included learning architecture, scripts, videos, assignments, practical resources, platform development, testing and facilitation.
Evidence of progress: The first FAI programme trained representatives from 8 clubs and led to a second commission and a subsequent online course. The IBU launched a sustainability course through its Academy and incorporated sustainability into coach education. World Taekwondo’s role-based platform attracted more than 200 users within five days of launch. The Global Sustainable Sport programme made structured sustainability learning available to a wider professional audience.

Monitoring and evaluation: needs analysis, research frameworks and final evaluations for SD Europe Erasmus+ programmes.
Social responsibility reporting: concept development, coordination and editing across multiple UEFA reporting cycles, including contributions from more than 30 partner organisations.
Practical guidance: development of the ITTF Foundation’s Think Sustainable, Act Now manual for World Table Tennis Day.
Strategic mentoring: support for two National Paralympic Committees through the IPC Organisational Capacity Programme.
Knowledge development: 36 published interview-based articles produced for the University of St Gallen and University of Zurich.
